CCC Information Services predicts repair requirements from vehicle collision photos using AI
In December 2018, CCC Information Services launched an automated estimation tool for insurers. The tool, called Smart Estimate, leverages AI to analyse collision photos. Based on analytics, the system is able to automatically assess the damage and generate estimates for cost and any parts that would need replacing. The company's Insurance customers that already use CCC ONE® Platform services can have easy access to the tool for virtual inspections.

"CCC Information Services Inc. (CCC) introduced today the world’s first in-production AI solution for vehicle collision estimates. CCC® Smart Estimate (Smart Estimate) leverages CCC’s estimating logic and AI photo analytics capabilities to pre-populate an estimate with suggestions for human estimators to review, edit, and advance. Through the process, Smart Estimate AI and human estimators learn from each other, creating fast and ever-smarter auto physical damage (APD) estimates over time. Smart Estimate is the latest in a line-up of telematics- and AI-powered products that together deliver the first end-to-end digital claims experience for insurers and their policyholders.
Smart Estimate applies CCC’s estimating logic and AI to vehicle collision photos to predict repair requirements and suggest estimate lines, including parts likely required to complete the repair. Smart Estimate can be implemented easily by insurance customers of CCC ONE® Platform services and the guided nature of the solution enables new estimators to be trained and productive easily and quickly. Guided estimating parameters are customizable to align with individual insurer business rules.
